Vista home premium join a domain

I was just wanting to know. When I launch the network icon, I can see all of my network, just lose some of the functionality of it. Yes, you can't authenticate to the domain controller. But all of the machines should be visible when browsing.

You will not get login scripts, GPO's or anything like that, though. One thing that helps some in Windows 9x and home editions is to set the workgroup and DNS suffix to match your domain and use usernames and passwords for local accounts that mirror a persons domain info.

This can allow easier access to network resources. You will not be able to actually log in to the domain which will impair single sign of features and you cannot apply Group Policy to these machines. If you can avoid having home edition machines on your network it is best. In some settings such as colleges where students join the domain this may be impossible, but in a business setting you are likley to incur more cost in staff time to support the home systems than a business edition upgrade will cost.

I don't want to have them input the credentials every time they need to access their email account. The problem is, I can't get it to connect to either the Vista or XP boxes on the domain that have files I want sharable to it. Everytime I try, I get a "Cannot connect, User permissions error".

I have various folders shared with full access granted to everyone, and I can't even connect to them - file sharing is turned on on both systems, and I can hit my Win2k3 server it pops up a connect dialog.
